Grad Camp Mission Statement

Mission

Our Mission is to provide high schools students with:

  • the KNOWLEDGE they will need to select colleges that best suit their needs
  • the TOOLS they will need to successfully apply to the colleges of their choice
  • the CONFIDENCE to know that they have made the right decisions

Our Leadership

alt
Grad Camp is headed by Matthew Kinigson who is assisted by his wife, Robin. Matthew has been a Social Studies teacher for 14 years, having taught grades 7-12. He's taken his students on trips to Italy, Spain, Morocco, Belgium, England, France, Amsterdam and Germany, as well as trips throughout the United States. Robin has been a Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of New York for 33 years. She has worked at Stony Brook, South Side, and Brookhaven Hospitals where she spent her time on surgical floors, surgical intensive care, and pediatrics. Currently Robin is the school nurse in an intermediate school where she tends to 800 nine and ten year olds. The dynamic duo will be traveling with our Grad Camp group this summer and heading up the team!

Why Grad Camp?

The college your child selects can make all the difference in his/her ultimate career success. The more a candidate knows about each school, the better he/she will be prepared to make a thoughtful and educated decision. GRAD CAMP is designed to make that decision a little easier by exposing them to various aspects of the college-selection process. The GRAD CAMP tour will introduce our participants to over twenty colleges, running the gamut from local community colleges to Ivy League universities. We will explore:

  • Location
  • Affordability
  • Academics
  • Programs Best Known For
  • Activities
  • Size
  • Social Activities

What are the benefits for participating in Grad Camp?

  • More exposure to a variety of colleges provides an invaluable resource in making the decision that may determine one’s life path.
  • The participant will learn more about a number of majors as well as which schools are best known for particular fields of study.
  • Knowing what one wants in a college helps eliminate several choices thus cutting down on the time and money spent on filling out unnecessary applications.
  • By visiting different colleges, the participants may become more aware of options previously not considered.
  • The participants will experience the tour in a comfortable, controlled, and non-threatening environment which will encourage them to ask questions and to think objectively.
  • GRAD CAMP is staffed with professionals familiar with:
    • Application Processes
    • Writing clear and informative essays
    • What exactly is needed to get into the college of one’s choice
